Medicines have benefits and some have risks. Always read the label and use only as directed. If symptoms persist or you have side effects see your health professional. Brands and generics both contain the same active ingredient(s) and are medically equivalent. Some brands are marketed under different names by the same manufacturer depending on the country of origin. Images are provided as a reference only, the received medicine may vary in packaging, color, pill shape, etc, from one batch to the next. For an item marked "generic" any quality brand may be sent, however you will always receive the active ingredients ordered in the strength(s) ordered.
Resolor (prucalopride) is used to help promote regular bowel movements in patients who have chronic constipation and do not have good results from laxatives. If working successfully, patients should completely eliminate their bowels at least three times a week.
Patients who buy Resolor should be aware that this medication is not classified as a laxative. It works on the muscle walls of the gut, stimulating mass movements, which helps restore normal functioning of the bowel and eases the strain, pain, and other difficulties passing feces experienced by those afflicted with constipation.
This product has not been studied in patients below age 18, and its effects on still-developing young bodies are unclear. Parents should not buy Resolor for this age group without explicit approval by a doctor.
Treatment Overview
All patients should ideally see a doctor prior to buying Resolor; it is not suitable in all cases. It is reserved for patients with chronic constipation, and in most cases prescribed only after regular laxatives fail to produce good results.
If Resolor is considered a viable option, the majority of patients take 2 mg per day. Tablets can be taken at any time, though taking them at the same time each day will help keep levels of the drug consistent in the body.
Taking tablets with food is optional, though food may help ease gastrointestinal side effects, if experienced.
In other words, most patients:
Some patients---those with certain other medical conditions or over age 65---may be started on 1 mg doses. If well tolerated, and needed, dosage may be increased to 2 mg. Rarely some patients are increased to 4 mg doses, though there is little evidence that doses higher than 2 mg work better.
Treatment may continue for as long as benefit remains, assuming no severe side effects develop. In some studies the medication remained for 24 months, at which time the studies ended. Resolor is not habit forming, and patients will not become dependent on it to produce a bowel movement as can happen with laxatives. However, unless the underlying cause of constipation is otherwise addressed, constipation will likely return when treatment ends.
Precautions
As mentioned above, not everyone with constipation is a suitable candidate for Resolor. It is strongly advised that a doctor be consulted prior to buying Resolor, as a doctor can rule out conditions in which it will not be effective, or may even be harmful.
Conditions in which Resolor should not be used include:
Patients with any other major medical condition, or taking any other medications, should also double-check with a doctor as to the safety of taking Resolor. In many cases taking Resolor will be fine, but in some cases dosage adjustments may be required or it will be considered too dangerous.
Adverse Effects
Many patients who buy Resolor will experience some side effects, but these are typically mild and transient, meaning they stop occurring within the first few days of treatment. More common side effects include:
The above are not cause for concern unless they become severe or regularly persist beyond the first week of treatment or dosage increases.
Rarely more serious side effects develop, which often call for medical attention. These include:
Pregnant or breastfeeding mothers should not buy Resolor; it may cause harm to the baby. Women who discover they're pregnant while Resolor is being taken should consult a doctor.
